OCSS Elections

OCSS is currently holding elections for officers and representatives (April 1- 20, 2011). You will receive a ballot in your newsletter which can be mailed in to the elections chairperson. You may also download a ballot here to mail in.

Vice- Presidential Candidates
Corbin Moore – In my 16 years as an educator, I have taught almost every Social Studies course from grades 7-12 and have served in several leadership positions including: department chair, curriculum leader, mentor, and presenter. I currently serve as the Social Studies Instructional Coach for Hamilton City Schools in Butler County and as the Executive Director of the Voices of America Teaching American History Grant Program, which serves the Hamilton, Lakota, and Mason School Districts in Southwest Ohio. Over the past five years, I have served as one of the Southwest Ohio Representatives for OCSS, OCSS Newsletter Editor, and Co-Director of the OCSS Social Studies Supervisors Network.
Keith Rydell- Hello, I am a 12 year educator, as well as a nine year OCSS board member. As an educator I have served many roles during my career. At Vantage Career Center I have taught high school social studies and served as the school principal. Currently I am the K-12 Program Services Director, At Crestview Local Schools. I have served on the OCSS board as the Regional Reprehensive for Northwest Ohio and as the Joint- Vocational Reprehensive. I have assisted the Board with conference planning and revising and updating the OCSS Constitution and By-Laws.
Higher Education Representative
Frans Doppen
Frans Doppen holds a Ph.D. in Social Studies Education and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida. He also holds a Doctorandus degree in Modern History from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Dr. Doppen teaches courses in curriculum and instruction, middle childhood education, and social studies education. His major research interests include civic education with a focus on the state of social studies education and issues of national identity. Dr. Doppen is an active member of the College and University Faculty Assembly and International Assembly of the National Council for the Social Studies as well as the Ohio Council for the Social Studies. He serves on the Executive Board of OCSS as Chair of the Higher Education SIG and Executive Editor of the Ohio Social Studies Review.
Middle School Representative
Kathy Chitwood – I am teach social studies at sell Middle School, Dublin City Schools. I have served as the Middle school representative and as district representative on the OCSS’s Board.
Primary Representative
Stephanie Rider I am the for Trumbull County Educational Service Center, I has served as the Northeast representative, Secretary and most recently finished out the Primary Representative positions on OCSS’s board.
Regional Representatives
Northwest
Gloria Wu – I currently teach World Studies and AP American Government at Bowsher High School, Toledo Public Schools. I am currently the Northwest representative to the OCSS Board.
Northeast
Sandy Williams – I am the Instructional Consultant for Mahoning County Educational Service Center. For the past two years, I has served as the Northeast regional representative for OCSS.
Southwest
Chris Maraschiello – I teach honors world and American history at Garfield Middle School in Hamilton, Ohio. In 2010, I received the OCSS Ohio Middle School Teacher of the Year Award and the Jim Blount History Award.
Southeast
Dina Metzler -. I have taught for the Logan-Hocking School District for 27 years. Dina has taught both elementary and middle school social studies and language arts. I believe that social studies should be an important part of any curriculum and that OCSS should be a strong advocate for strengthening and improving the social studies curriculum.
